–Dr Gagandeep Gupta holds free orthopaedic health check-up and awareness camp
Mohali, September 5, 2025: Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gagandeep Gupta, held a free orthopaedic health camp for patients. Dr Gupta undertook examination of patients who consulted him for joint pain, limited movement, and difficulty in carrying out daily activities due to knee problems – mainly knee arthritis. The camp was held at tricity’s Amcare Super Speciality Hospital.
While speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the camp, Dr Gagandeep Gupta said, “Sedentary habits like long sitting hours and excessive usage of mobile phones were increasing the incidence of knee arthritis. The damaged knees in turn restrict activity, creating a vicious cycle of health issues like obesity, blood sugar irregularities, and hypertension. This results in loss of quality of life.”
“The camp was held to make patients aware of latest breakthroughs available in medical science to address knee problems, one such technique is robotic arm knee resurfacing which has revolutionised treatment of knee problems,” added Dr Gagandeep.
Dr Gagandeep further said, “Robotic arm knee resurfacing is an advancement that has transformed joint care as it ensures smaller incisions, more precise implant positioning, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery to an independent lifestyle.”
Meanwhile, the free health check-up camp aimed to dispel myths and share realities about knee resurfacing surgery. “Many patients delay seeking treatment due to misconceptions around treatment options for knee pain, risks, and recovery, often worsening their condition. Timely consultation can prevent deterioration and improve long-term outcomes,” said Dr Gagandeep.
In the camp people were also educated about cutting-edge solutions like 3D printed knee designs, offering customized implants tailored to individual anatomy, thereby improving results and patient comfort.
“Our mission is to break the myths surrounding joint surgery and show people that modern advancements like robotics and 3D printing have made procedures safer, quicker, and highly effective,” said Dr Gagandeep.
A unique feature of the camp was that patients who had their knee resurfacing done by Dr Gagandeep Gupta shared their experiences with the audience.
Ms Saroj (name changed) from Karnal said that she weighed around 105 kg before surgery and was afraid to undergo surgery. But now, 3 months after surgery, she is able to walk 1 hour daily without pain and carry out all her daily activities independently.
Mr Charan Singh (name changed) from Patiala shared that he got his knee resurfacing done by Dr Gagandeep in 2021 at the age of 83 years, because of severe knee pain. and now even after 4 years of surgery, he can drive a car, come up and down the stairs and do all his daily activities comfortably.
Ms Devinder Kaur from Narwana informed that because of knee arthritis, her knees were deformed and she used to limp while walking. Ignoring the pain and limp for a long time led to spine problems for which she was advised to have spine surgery. But after undergoing knee resurfacing by Dr Gagandeep, her gait and walking improved and now 4 years after surgery, she is comfortable and even her spine does not bother her anymore.
Dr Gagandeep informed that there are so many myths surrounding weight, age and other factors which creates confusion in patients’ mind about whether to choose knee resurfacing or not. Online Google searches and vernacular advice further add to this confusion, he said.
In the camp it was emphasised that patients with knee arthritis having difficulty in carrying out their activities of daily living should consult an orthopaedic expert to discuss their problem so that an appropriate plan of management can be worked out.
