Chandigarh: Punjab has taken a significant step towards transforming healthcare with the launch of the Punjab Chapter of the Telemedicine Society of India (TSI), a landmark initiative dedicated to advancing telemedicine across the state. The Punjab Chapter was formally inaugurated on 3 August 2026 under the leadership of Dr. Deepak Bhasin, a distinguished healthcare professional and a strong advocate of digital healthcare innovation.

The formation of the Punjab Chapter of TSI marks the beginning of a new era in the state’s healthcare journey. While telemedicine has been successfully implemented across several southern states of India for nearly two decades, Punjab is now embracing this proven model to improve access to specialist medical care, particularly for patients in rural and underserved regions.

The Telemedicine Society of India – Punjab Chapter aims to bring together healthcare professionals, hospitals, technology partners, academic institutions, and policymakers to promote the adoption of telemedicine, establish best practices, support clinical training, and encourage innovation in digital healthcare delivery. By leveraging technology, the initiative seeks to reduce geographical barriers, improve patient outcomes, and ensure that quality healthcare reaches every corner of Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Deepak Bhasin described the launch as a milestone that will strengthen Punjab’s healthcare ecosystem and prepare the state for the future of connected medicine. The Society also envisions collaborating with government bodies and private healthcare providers to develop a sustainable telemedicine framework aligned with national healthcare priorities.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of several eminent healthcare leaders and experts, including Dr. Uma Shankar, Honorary Secretary, Telemedicine Society of India; Dr. Simerdeep Singh, Director & Chief Operating Officer; Dr. Sanjay Sood, eSanjeevani; and Dr. Yudishtra, along with leading doctors, healthcare administrators, policymakers, and technology experts. Their collective presence reflected a shared commitment to making quality healthcare more accessible, affordable, and technology-driven.

With the launch of the Punjab Chapter of the Telemedicine Society of India, the state has taken a decisive step towards embracing digital transformation in healthcare, paving the way for a future where specialist medical expertise is available to every patient, regardless of location.
