–Chandigarh, May 7, 2025: The Annual Prize Distribution and NSS Valedictory Function of Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, was celebrated with great fervor and grandeur on May 7, 2025. This significant occasion marked the culmination of the academic session 2024–25 and served as a platform to honour the achievements of students in academics, co-curricular pursuits, sports and community service. The event commenced with the resonant strains of the college anthem, setting a solemn and proud tone for the celebration. This was followed by a formal welcome by the Principal, Dr. Sapna Nanda, who greeted the Chief Guest Dr. Richa Rathee, HCS, Additional Director, Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, faculty members and the student body. In her address, Dr. Nanda reflected on the year’s accomplishments, reiterating the college’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, value-based education, and all-round student development. The event was further enriched by heartfelt narratives shared by students Jasmine and Shivani, who poignantly recounted their transformative journeys, invoking both nostalgia and inspiration.

Chief Guest Dr. Richa Rathee, delivered a compelling and motivational speech. Addressing the aspiring educators, she emphasized: “By choosing B.Ed., you have chosen a mission, not just a profession. Changing minds is the most challenging task—and only a teacher holds that power. A teacher’s influence often outweighs that of even parents, capable of igniting passion or casting lifelong shadows.”
She also shared a moving message: “The skill of touching a heart belongs to the ideal teacher—one who uncovers hidden fears and dormant talents. To become an ideal in the eyes of the child you teach, is the highest honor, and one must continue striving for it.”
The celebration honored more than 185 students with academic and co-curricular prizes, including One Roll of Honour conferred on Mr. Karandeep Singh for glorious accomplishments in various fields, 20 College Colour and Merit Certificates. These accolades acknowledged excellence not only in academics but also in co curricular, sports and outreach  contributions. Another highlight of the day was the release of the college magazine- The Educational Observer (2024-25), a vibrant compilation of student and faculty creativity and accomplishments.
The program was meticulously curated and executed by the combined efforts of the Cultural Committee (Dr. Vandana Aggarwal & Dr. Ravinder Kumar), NSS Committee (Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Dr. Aarti Bhatt & Dr. Upasna Thapliyal), and Prize Committee (Dr. Kusum & Ms. Sonika).
The day concluded with vibrant cultural performances, echoing the spirit of creativity and joy, and left everyone with warm wishes and renewed inspiration for the journey ahead. The event once again reaffirmed the college’s dedication to nurturing not just educators, but torchbearers of transformation and hope.
