Chandigarh, December 14, 2025: The St John’s Old Boys Association(SJOBA) Golf Tournament 2025, held in fond memory of Old Boy Sahil Sharma, concluded on a high note with Rajiv Janjua lifting the coveted Overall Gross Winner Trophy with a score of 76 gross at the Chandigarh Golf Club(CGC). Played under clear winter skies, the 18-hole tournament brought together alumni golfers spanning decades. SJOBA is the alumni association of Chandigarh’s prestigious St John’s High School, Sec 26.

The prize distribution was held at the Chandigarh Golf Association(CGA), and was graced by Chief Guest Mr Diprava Lakra, IAS, Finance Secretary, Chandigarh. The other dignitaries present included Ravibir Singh,  President, CGC and Ranjit Pachnanda, IPS (Retd.),  President, CGA. Notably, this year the SJOBA Golf Tournament was held in association with the GB Legends, an organisation driven by a ‘passion for excellence’ and a strong commitment to promoting golf as an Olympic sport.

104 golfers competed across various categories for net and gross honours. In the Handicap 0–9 category, Dilsher Grewal emerged winner with 36 points, while Sahil Sehgal finished runner-up with 33 points. The Handicap 10–18 category witnessed a closely fought contest, with Manu Khosla winning on 33 points, edging past Harman Mangat, who also scored 33 points but finished runner-up on countback (BB9). In the Handicap 19–24 category, Manraj Sohi claimed victory with 30 points, followed by Uday Mahajan with 29 points.

Kunal Sekhri, President, SJOBA, said: “This year’s edition marked a significant step forward in youth engagement. In an initiative to promote sporting culture and nurture future golfers, 40 student golfers aged 7 to 17 from six leading schools of Chandigarh were invited to participate. Their enthusiastic presence infused fresh energy into the fairways and reflected SJOBA’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young athletes.”

Talent was on full display in the Junior Category, in this category  Jaivir Singh Kang clinched the winner’s title with 37 points and Viraj Sehgal finished runner-up with 35 points. In the Age 60 Years & Above category, Brig M S Dhanoa won with 34 points, while Wg Cdr G S Pannu secured the runner-up position with 32 points. The Sponsor Category saw M P Singh take top honours with 79 gross.

The tournament also featured popular on-course challenges that added excitement to the day. Vaneet Khosla won the Straightest Drive award with a remarkable 2 inches, Karandeep Bajaj powered his way to the Longest Drive title with a hit of 321 yards and Jaibir Singh Kang showcased precision to win Closest to the Pin at 4 feet 11 inches.

Reflecting further, Kunal Sekhri said: “This tournament is more than a sporting occasion; it is a celebration of shared heritage and collective pride. Honouring Sahil’s memory through an event that unites Old Boys and inspires young golfers reflects the true ethos of SJOBA.”

SJOBA expressed sincere gratitude to all participants, alumni, students, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the tournament’s success, while extending special thanks to GB Legends for adding strength and stature to the 2025 edition.
