CHANDIGARH: Indian Oil Corporation’s Punjab State Office has completed its highest-ever winter stocking operation, delivering nearly 1 lakh kilolitres of petroleum products to Ladakh. Ashutosh Gupta, Executive Director and State Head, said that the supplies were secured before the seasonal closure of the Zojila and Rohtang passes.
With primary routes cut off by snow for six months, IndianOil must transport a half-year supply in a narrow window to support the Indian Army and local civilians. Tanker drivers navigate a 2,000-km round trip over eight days in temperatures plunging to –20°C with near-zero visibility.
The 2025 season faced severe hurdles, including a massive cloudburst in Ramban on April 20 that trapped tankers in debris, and security volatility following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. Despite security-related blackouts and the devastating August floods, supply lines remained intact.
“Working conditions were extremely tough, but we ensured no shortages for the Army or civilians,” said Gupta. To boost morale, IndianOil Chairman Arvinder S. Sahney personally visited drivers in high-risk zones, reiterating the motto: “India First, Oil Later.” This record achievement reaffirms IndianOil’s vital role in India’s national security and regional stability.
