Chandigarh: Punjab has always been known for its energy, enterprise and creativity. From music and films to fashion, food, sports and business, students from Punjab have always shown a natural flair for imagination and innovation. Today, that same creative spirit is finding new expression in modern careers like design, animation, gaming, ui-ux, architecture, digital media and visual communication.
Talking about this change, World University of Design (WUD) organised a special Counsellors’ Meet in Chandigarh to interact with school principals and career advisors from across Punjab. The objective was simple. To help educators understand the wide range of new-age career options available to students beyond the traditional choices of engineering, medicine and management.
The meet brought together counsellors from cities such as Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali and Chandigarh. Discussions focused on how students from all streams including Science, Commerce and Arts can build successful careers in creative fields. WUD experts shared insights on emerging professions such as game design, fashion design, digital product design, film and video design, UX design, interior design and animation.
Punjab has a long tradition of craftsmanship, storytelling, entrepreneurship and visual culture. These strengths fit perfectly with the skills needed in the modern creative industry. This is one of the reasons why a growing number of students from Punjab are choosing design education as a serious and rewarding career path.
During the event, WUD shared that Punjab is becoming one of its important student hubs in North India, with increasing enrolments from the state every year. The university also highlighted its collaborations with leading national and international institutions that give students opportunities for internships, global exposure, industry projects and higher studies.
To make quality design education accessible to talented students, WUD offers merit scholarships and has also launched the WUD Shiksha Sathi programme, a financial assistance initiative designed to support deserving students from diverse economic backgrounds.
A WUD spokesperson said, “Punjabi students are confident, creative and hardworking by nature. They are natural problem solvers and innovators. Design careers suit their mindset perfectly. Our effort is to help counsellors and parents see these possibilities and guide students towards professions that match their talent and passion.”
With the rapid growth of startups, digital platforms, media houses and creative businesses across India, the demand for trained design professionals is rising sharply. Through its outreach programmes in Punjab, WUD aims to prepare the next generation of creative leaders who can contribute to both regional and global industries.
The Chandigarh meet marked another step in WUD’s mission to empower young students from Punjab to explore careers that are modern, meaningful and full of opportunity.
