“Jaylakshmi Eshwar’s Dance on Sari Tales by Nivedita Charitable Trust”

-Chandigarh, 27 July 2024 – Nivedita Charitable Trust today proudly organized “Mix & Match,” a spectacular multimedia dance production, at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. This unique event paid homage to the rich heritage of Indian textiles and saris, highlighting the invaluable contributions of weavers while bridging traditions, mythology, and textiles.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Dr. Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat & Chairperson of Special Olympics Asia Pacific Advisory Council appreciated the efforts put in by Acharaya Jayalaxmi Eshwar ji for promoting the art & rich culture of our society and forking for the cause of Weavers along with Nivedita Charitable Trust. Dedicated to the mission of building an inclusive society, Dr. Mallika Nadda has been associated with the cause of women welfare and empowerment, and the rights of the disabled for the last 30 years.

The event’s concept and choreography was masterfully crafted by Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Acharya Jaylakshmi Eshwar, whose visionary approach brought the essence of Indian cultural heritage to life through captivating dance performances. “Mix & Match” showcased a blend of traditional and contemporary dance forms, set against a backdrop of stunning multimedia visuals that narrated the intricate stories and significance of Indian textiles. Mrs. Jayalakshmi Eshwar and her team presented the show.

Jayalakshmi Eshwar, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee 2021, is an internationally acclaimed Bhartanatyam exponent par excellence – an excellent performer, choreographer, teacher and author, with experience of more than four decades in dance. She graduated in performing arts from “Kalakshetra”, Chennai- the pioneering Institution for fine arts envisioned by Late Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, who has been a guiding inspiration for Jayalakshmi. Along with Bharatanatyam, she has also learnt Kuchipudi, Odissi and Seraikela Chhau.

Acharya Jaylakshmi Eshwar’s choreography intricately wove together elements of mythology and the timeless traditions of sari weaving, creating a mesmerizing narrative that celebrated the artistry and dedication of weavers across India. The production highlighted the beauty and diversity of textiles from various regions, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.

The other dancers of the troupe include Sushmita Satyamurty, Nandita Nambiar, Sivapriya C P, Kaveri Abrol, Eksha Chadalavada, Dr. Piyushree Shukla, Smridhi Khurana, Prerna Bisht and Chhau Dancers namely Sushant Maharana, Arun Khichi and Chand Khan. Visuals and Multimedia & Light Designing of the program were supported by Avinash Kumar & Milind Srivastava respectively. Music Composer & Producers are Gopal Rao Parnandi, Violinist Shri Sanjeev Venkataramanan, P. Vetriboopathy and Arvindd Narayanan.

The event drew an enthusiastic audience, including art and culture enthusiasts, fashion aficionados, and supporters of Indian heritage. Attendees were treated to a visual and auditory feast, with vibrant costumes, dynaMix performances, and immersive multimedia displays that brought the stories of textiles and weavers to life.

“Mix & Match” served as a heartfelt tribute to the weavers of India, whose artistry and dedication continue to preserve and promote the rich tapestry of Indian culture. Nivedita Charitable Trust remains dedicated to Mission 3D – Dhee, Dharti, Darohar, (Daughters, Mother Earth & Heritage) and committed to celebrating and supporting the arts, fostering cultural appreciation, and preserving the legacy of Indian craftsmanship.

The program was well attended by more than 600 classical dance lovers of the States of Punjab, Haryana & UT of Chandigarh and from all walks of society including academicians, bureaucrats, technocrats, judiciary, business & industry.
