-Chandigarh, 10 June (2025): The Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO) today expressed concern over the increasing incidents of police excesses and decided to investigate the recent death of a teacher in the Bhathinda police custody and the killing of Canadian PR Jaspreet Singh in a police encounter near Patiala last March.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of PHRO Chairman Justice (Retd.) Ranjit Singh observed that Punjab Police seemed to have been enjoying unrestricted powers/freedom similar to those of the 1990s; the police have become autocratic and have been indulging in violations of human and civil rights.
