Chandigarh 4 Nov

Under the aegis of Rotary Club Chandigarh Central, the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF) – Health and Wellness Focus Group, in collaboration with the NSS Cell of Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, organized a Spectacle Distribution Drive on 4th November 2025 at Shiv Mandir, Village Kajheri, Sector 52, Chandigarh.

Aligned with the objective of the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF) under its project “Caring for Elder Citizens”, this initiative of Rotary Club Chandigarh Central and Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, aimed to identify and address the health needs of senior citizens by mobilizing support from volunteers, NGOs, RWAs, medical institutions, and social welfare organizations. The drive focused on promoting eye health and visual well-being among the underprivileged, particularly the elderly.

As a follow-up to the Eye Check-up Camp held on 25th September 2025, approximately 60 spectacles, sponsored by Rotary Club Chandigarh Central, were distributed free of cost to beneficiaries identified during the previous camp. During that camp, doctors from J. P. Hospital examined the patients and recommended individuals for spectacles. These spectacles were prepared by J. P. Hospital, sponsored by Rotary Club Chandigarh Central, and distributed by NSS volunteers during this follow-up drive.

The occasion was graced by Mr. Vebhu Bhatnagar, President, Rotary Club Chandigarh Central; Ms. Nikki Kaur, Convenor, Health and Wellness Focus Group, CCF; and Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vebhu Bhatnagar appreciated the collaborative spirit of all partners and remarked that such initiatives truly reflect the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.”

Ms. Nikki Kaur highlighted that caring for the elderly is a shared social responsibility and appreciated the students and volunteers for their dedication.

Dr. Sapna Nanda commended the joint effort, stating that such initiatives cultivate empathy and social responsibility among student volunteers.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Balwinder Kaur and Dr. Upasna Thapliyal, NSS Programme Officers, Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, collaborators, and volunteers for their support in promoting public health and holistic well-being.
