11th Edition of Amateur Golfers Society Tournament Announced, Focus on Growing Golf in Tricity

Chandigarh, April 4, 2026: With a focus on expanding golf culture in the tricity, the Amateur Golfers Society (AGS) today formally announced the 11th Edition of the Amateur Golfers Society(AGS) Golf Tournament,  at a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club. The tournament will be played at Panchkula Golf Club on Sunday, April 5, with tee-off scheduled at 6:30 am and prize distribution ceremony later in the evening.

The media briefing was addressed by Advocate Suresh K Gupta, Founder Trustee, AGS; Hukum Goyal, Chief Patron, AGS and owner of Jia Diamonds; Sanjeev Goyal, IAAS, Patron, AGS; S S Prasad, IAS (Retd.), Patron, AGS, and Naresh Ugra, Director, Land Edge Developers, who shared key details about the upcoming tournament and the Society’s broader vision for the sport.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Suresh K Gupta highlighted that the tournament will see participation from 68 amateur golfers, including four women players, competing across handicap categories of 0–9, 10–15, and 16 and above.

He emphasized that the initiative is aimed at enhancing the playing skills of amateur golfers, encouraging new entrants into the sport, and promoting a strong golfing culture across the tricity region.

Advocate Suresh Gupta added that supported by partners such as Jia Diamonds, Alpine Nest Homes, Land Edge Developers who are coming up with a premium residential project, Opal County in Dholera – India’s future smart city, SOORAHI Whisky, and Investors Propmart, the tournament will also feature special competition categories including Straightest Drive, Nearest to Pin, Longest Drive and Highest Birdies. Winners will be awarded trophies, he said.

Hukum Goyal, Chief Patron, AGS, said that the Society has consistently worked towards making golf more accessible through training programs, tournaments, and awareness campaigns.

Highlighting the Society’s achievements, Sanjeev Goyal, IAAS, Patron, AGS, shared that AGS has successfully trained a growing number of new golfers and contributed to a rise in golf participation in the tricity.

S S Prasad, IAS (Retd.), Patron, AGS, spoke about the Society’s long-term vision of creating a dedicated AGS Golf Range. He said that a few land parcels have already been identified and the process to finalize the site is underway. He added that once the land is secured, the golf range is expected to become operational within a period of nine months.

Outlining future plans, the AGS leadership reiterated its commitment to training more golfers, including women and children, developing the tricity as a golf tourism hub, and supporting the growth of new golf infrastructure in the region.
