-Panchkula September 26: Deputy Commissioner Sh Satpal Sharma chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee and Surakshit School Vahan Policy in Mini Secretariat here today. During the meeting, he directed all concerned departments to identify accident-prone spots and implement necessary corrective measures to prevent road accidents across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the primary objective of the committee is to reduce the number of road accidents and related fatalities. He underlined the importance of combining technical interventions with public awareness initiatives to enhance road safety.
Highlighting the role of surveillance in accident prevention, the Deputy Commissioner said that CCTV cameras play a vital role in monitoring traffic and deterring violations. He instructed the Municipal Corporation to ensure that all installed cameras are fully operational. At present, a total of 473 CCTV cameras have been installed at various locations across Panchkula.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sh Satpal Sharma directed the Police Department to actively educate the public on road safety rules, alongside the implementation of the challan process. He emphasized that raising awareness and ensuring public compliance with traffic regulations can significantly help in reducing road accidents. Additionally, the Police Department was directed to prepare an effective action plan to control overspeeding.
Sh Satpal Sharma further directed all concerned officers to ensure timely implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting and to submit a progress report in the next review meeting.
He also invited suggestions from the non-official members of the committee to help further strengthen the traffic management system in Panchkula.
Those present at the meeting included Secretary, RTA Hairatjeet Kaur, SDM Panchkula Chanderkant Kataria, SDM Kalka Sanyam Garg, DCP Crime and Traffic Manpreet Singh Sudan, ACP Traffic Surender Singh, Secretary, Red Cross Society, Panchkula Savita Agarwal, officers from PWD, PMDA, NHAI, the Municipal Corporation, and other non-official members of the committee.
