-CHANDIGARH- LM Thapar School of Management (LMTSM), a premier institution under the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), celebrated its 19th Foundation Day with a vibrant ceremony that began with a symbolic tree plantation ceremony led by Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, Hon’ble Finance Minister, Government of Punjab, reinforcing LMTSM’s enduring values of sustainability and growth.
The event was further marked by the inauguration of Punjab’s first LMT-NSE Cogencis Finance Lab-a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster experiential financial learning, research, and innovation. The celebration was graced by Mr. Kuljit Singh Randhawa, MLA, Dera Bassi, along with senior leadership from TIET, including Dr. Ajay Batish, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Gurbinder Singh, Registrar. Their presence reflected the institute’s legacy of academic excellence and forward-thinking leadership.
In his keynote address, Adv. Harpal Singh Cheema extended heartfelt congratulations to the LMTSM community and commended the school for nurturing responsible, industry-ready leaders. “I can see the future of Punjab and India in this hall,” he remarked, highlighting the role of educational institutions in shaping the socio-economic trajectory of the state. He described the Finance Lab as an enabler of practical exposure, helping students seamlessly connect classroom concepts with real-world financial systems.
This pioneering LMT-NSE Cogencis Finance Lab features five high-end terminals equipped to support advanced financial analytics, simulations, and research. It is poised to provide learners with a powerful platform for immersive training in financial markets, data interpretation, and strategic decision-making, thereby preparing them for impactful careers in finance and beyond.
The celebration also included a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the school’s enduring commitment to knowledge and enlightenment. Dr. Sonia Garg, Head of LMTSM, offered a reflective overview of the institute’s journey from its roots in Patiala to its evolution into a dynamic center of transformative management education in Dera Bassi.
Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director of LMTSM, emphasized the strong academic lineage inherited from TIET and noted that the school’s location within an industrial belt enables robust industry-academia collaboration. “The growth of LMTSM is not just in numbers, but in its growing influence on responsible management thinking and practice,” he said.
